WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING:
A little kindness goes a long way. Teach Kindness is proof of that. Having everyone on board and spreading kindness is wonderful. Our staff and students know that being kind is beneficial, but this challenge brought that to the forefront of everyone’s mind.
“While we all know that our students need to be kind, often schools don't have a concrete way to reinforce this behavior consistently. Teach Kindness is a great way for all teachers and students to get on board with a clear program, and it holds everyone accountable to doing the program with fidelity. During the program, you will notice both teachers and students using language about being kind, and shouting out others for exemplifying positive traits.”
“I think that teachers learned that encouraging students to be kind has such a positive impact on the entire school community. Noticing all the kind things that students were doing for each other created a strong sense of love and caring among our students. If other schools choose to join Teach Kindness, they can look forward to having students encouraging each other to be kind, checking their own behavior to make sure it is kind, and a sense of community among all staff members and students.”
“Using this program to shine a spotlight on kindness really made it come alive in our building in a fun way! It brought our community together in a very focused way to ensure we all kept this at the top of our minds.”
“Teach Kindness was so worth it. The activities allowed me to get to know my students better and it was a joy to see them interact in such positive ways. This program also brought the teachers closer through collaboration and planning for Teach Kindness. Teachers who were at odds set positive examples for the students which to this day has made a big difference with their current interaction and collaborations on various tasks since the completion of the program.”
“I think it’s important for districts and schools to integrate kindness in the curriculum and just the overall experience in school because we know that, you know, we are growing and developing and cultivating young people who we want to go on and live whole, full lives. And so - - it’s not just about what you know and sort of, you know, math or science or social studies. It’s also about how you treat one another, how you belong to a community - - how you understand different perspectives and points of view. - - And that’s what it means to be a contributor to your community. And so, we can’t just talk about sort of the academic pieces of that. We have to also talk about - - what it means to sort of live a whole, full life and be a contributing citizen.”
